Low Road

Day 91

He felt furious at himself.

So few could turn back the clock.

He walked into a secure area.

The secret room.

He pushed the elevator button.

He was leaving.

He may never see his son again

Alive.

But at least he would die with his

Self respect.

Low Road

Day 90

He had given up on trying to make sense of it.

It was all still unclear.

None of the connections lined up.

Nothing made sense.

and that was the point.

That was how the Organization worked.

His wife would be the new director.

He had made it happen.

He had been double crossed.

They all had.

There was nothing left to lose.

and now one father

had one cohice left.

A fight for to the end...

He was going to bring it.

He came to his senses...

But was it too late.

Low Road

Day 89

Internal Memo :

The number was blurred out.

The plans were revealed.

His son needed to know the truth.

The whole thing was staged.

His wife was not dead.

He was double crossed.

and now he was the one that was in danger.

He had led his boy here.

To his own death.

His own demise.

He was trying to hold it together.

The emotions.

The years.

and the tears.

This was the last lie.

and he was to deliver his own boy.

To the organization.

The twist.

The turn.

The ever burn.

Low Road

Day 88

Headquarters.

They were almost there.

"There had been a siege. There is no word on your father." the doppelganger said.

"That doesn't mean anything," Roger said out loud but inside he was worried about his father.

His daughter slept next to him through the entire ride.

As they approached the first barricade they were reunited with resistance fighters. Old friend from the war of long ago. Some had even served with his father."

"It is so good to see you Roger," one of the men dressed in fatigues said.

"Is he...o.k.? Roger asked reluctantly. He was afraid of what the answer might be. He had lost enough he did not want another loss this day.

"He is alive and well. He will be here shortly."

Low Road

Day 87

As the car sped away the glow in the rear view showed what looked like an apocalypse.

"They could be trailing us." he said.

"Nope. I rigged the place. As soon as they enter the station there will be an exp...

The sound of an explosion could be heard through the forest.

They made their way onto the freeway and into the night they drove.

Their destination.

The Organization.

Low Road

Day 86

"We need to get out of here."

Just then the girl was injected with something to make her sleep.

This was all too much for her to take.

A flood of emotions.

Washed over the pain.

Of years of regret.

He was reunited with the other agent who had taken his daughter to safety.

and the one who had taught and protected her.

The three of them were together.

and his daughter.

"I have a car waiting. This is my doppelganger. We must leave now." she said.

"We need to contact my father! " he said.

"He might already be dead." she said.

"I doubt that."
Just then the lights went out.

"I have a car waiting on the other side of the tracks but we must move now." she said.

The three of them ran as the remianing members of the organization closed in and over took the train and the trainstation.

As they cleared the tracks through the bushes nightfall protected them from being seen.

The leaves were wet and their footsteps were silenced by the sound of ...

The Organization,

Low Road

Day 85

"Christopher."

He hadn't seen him since the war. He was thought to have been killed by the Organization, but the pictures brought him to a point of ...

Hope.

It was all he had left.

They had shared a lot of good times as well as a lot of battles.

They had almost reconnected ...

Once.

When Rachael went missing. He had someone on the inside looking out for her.

He had heard that there was an attack at the office.

He had heard that he had been killed.

He had heard that he was in fact Rachael's

Father.

That's why they were married.

To protect the innocent.

To keep the revolution going.

To give his son the hope that he never had.

The hope of love.

Low Road

Day 85

As they busted through the door to the office. The director was already dead.

On his desk were a collection of pictures. They were pictures cut out of celebrities who looked like the people in the organization. These pictures were attached to the desk with magnets.

He was confused for a minute and then realized what it all meant.

There were only two people he knew who did this sort of thing.

His son was one of them and ...

Low Road

Day 84

"I just want it over!!!!!" he commanded.

It needed to end.

"Sir. It's your son. He is in position. The threat is growing on the ground. We must move now." the soldier reported.

"Proceed." he said.

His body was frail from the years. He looked strong on the outside but he was barely surviving. The only thing that kept him pushing himself forward was love.

His wife had suffered the same fate as Rachael. The organization had brought generations of his family to their knees and now it was soon to be over.

As the soldiers entered the main lobby leading to the directors office it was only a matter of time before it would end.

Low Road

Day 83

As she lay there he plead with her with his daughter crying by his side.

He told her that he loved her and the reasons he did what he did.

He told her the plan. What was going to happen. How it was all going to end. How she was going to be the new Director. That was his gift to her. People needed to believe that they were dead. Even though they found out that they were alive since they were separated the Organization would leave him alone. Their daughter would be safe. and they would never see it coming.

Just like this attack. His wife was dead.

Before the end he told her about his father. His story. How he became the man he was. How he had looked out for both of them from afar.

and then he told her about the relation to him and the one he called his Sister.

She was his sister.

In the Revolution.

Low Road

Day 82

Her frame had remained the same. She was his daughters teacher. She was his...

Sister.

"I'm so glad to see you. We need to get her."

"She will be o.k. The Commander sent back up." "We need to get out of here before more agents arrive. We are on our own until we get to headquarters." she said.

Rachael looked stunned.

"Rachael I always knew you worked for the agency. I just needed to know that I could trust you and now I know. I needed you to lead us to the Director." Roger said.

"So you used me." Rachael was crying with rage.

"No more than you used me," Roger retorted.

"This is nice and all but we need to get to your daughter and then we need to get out of here. There aren't that many of us. The other revolutionaries are at headquarters ready to siege. The Director will be taken hostage and the new Director will take his place. We must act quick. We must get out of here now!" she grabbed Roger by the arm.

Just then the train door opened and the child ran into her fathers arms.

"Daddy." she said. He hugged her crying.

"Mommy," she said running to her mother.

She held her in her arms and wouldn't let go.

As she fell to the ground it slowly occurred to Roger that his wife had been shot.

The child fell out of her mothers arms and Roger ran to her aide.

The other agent attacked with a vengeance. She chased down the assailant. Through the train doors and over the cries of a husband and his daughter was the sound of a man pleading for his life and then...

Silence.

Low Road

Day 81

As the plane crossed through the clouds a haze could be seen on each side.

The destination was nearing. He began to have second thoughts but he knew what he had to do.

"The attack has begun." the soldier next to him reported.

"Excellent." he said.

As the headquarters of the Organization were over taken by rebel soldiers he was about to land. His job was easy. He was the commander. He was their leader and he took his job seriously.

"My son?" he asked.

"Yes Commander. He is alive. As well as his wife and child."

"One of our agents has them."

"As you were."

He acted as if it were all procedural but his heart was racing. and his health was not what it had once been.

"Strike and don't look back. I want the Director taken hostage. We are not murderers we are revolutionaries!!!!!!"

Low Road

Day 80

The voice spoke only for a moment. One word.

"Now."

The man picked up his coat from the chair and walked to a door.

As he exited he was flanked by solidiers at each side.

He placed a beret on his head and the patch over his eye spoke to the tragedy that he had endured when he was his own sons age.

"Sir." The lituenant said.

"This is it. We will be at the destination in 0200 hours."

"Good." he said.

"I have waited my whole life for this moment. My family will be reunited."

As he boarded the awaiting plane he looked out at the tarmac and with a woeful glace remembered that he would see his homeland no more. For his sacrifice would change the course of history.

and her story would be written for generations to come.

Low Road

Day 79

In an office half way around the world a man sat waiting for a call. A call from his son. Someone he had cared for all his life.

His son had at one time been a solider. Then he had gone home from the war. He met a girl, they got married, they had a daughter. But now the times were darker. The night was pitch black. The sighs for air coming from his lungs were shallower by the day.

All he ever wanted was to take down the agency. The Organization as they called themselves.

Some organization they were.

As luck would have it they met. He and her. Roger his son. The woman Rachael who would give birth to a daughter.

The floodgates were open.

The future was unsure.

But if he were to ever to gain control again.

He would take them down.

He would take them all down.

The phone rang.

Low Road

Day 78

As the girl was running she passed bodies of agents. Somehow this one person had destroyed those who were trying to hurt her. People would tell her one day that he was an evil man. Or that he was crazy. But she knew in her heart that he was the one who knew all along where the path lie.

That he alone.

Was the one.

Who would help to lead her home.

As she passed through the doors of the train station a woman in a coat approached her. "I am so glad to see you."

"Where is my mother and father?"

"They are nearby. We must go now before more agents arrive."

The girl knew she had to trust her. The man led her to this place. The phone call. The years. It was all coming true. She was finally going to be.

Reunited.

Low Road

Day 77

"You can't trust anyone little one. Remember that. People will turn on you. I hate to be the one to tell you."

"I wasn't aiming for you. I was aiming for them." the mysterious figured said.

Just then a group of agents surround the outskirts of the train station. They were armed and they were outnumbered.

The little girl knew that she would be reunited with her parents one way or another and no one was going to get in the way of that.

The stranger spoke, "So I see you have us outnumbered. That's too bad because what if you could never have that of which you want."

The stranger grabbed the girl and took her hostage. "If she's dead who are you going to use? Who will do your bidding in the future. This has to stop. This has to end. The world will collapse without us. I doubt that. I doubt that. I even doubt myself. Sometimes." Under his breath he told her, "I will keep you safe little one. I am losing my mind. But even then my soul tells me to keep you safe. Don't be scared. When I start firing run to the station you will find your father and mother there."

The girl nodded. He seemed like someone she once knew but how could this be.

He raised his arms to reveal an artillery laden jacket. He was a madman to some but he was her way to safety.

"RUN!!!!!!" he yelled.

She ran.

He fired a barrage that seemed to never end.

The other agents fired back.

In the end he was dead and she was free.

Low Road

Day 76

The girl was frozen in her own confusion.

She wanted to find her parents. She wanted to find her protector.

The train station was just out of reach. She could see the fire and the smoke in the distance.

She could see the end coming near.

She could see over the horizon.

The problem was that there was none.

She was the horizon.

She was the sunshine.

She was the one.

The only one that mattered anymore.

Her senses were heightened.

She could hear the bullet in the chamber.

"How was this possible?" she thought to herself.

She was confused but she knew what to do.

Just like before.

"Stop right there!!!!!" the voice said.

She stood frozen. Was this it? Was this the end. Would she ever see her parents again?

Day 75

Day 75

So here we are at the 75th day of 100 days of summer.

The story is 3/4 of the way through.

The weird thing is that I will miss it.

The other strange thing is that I have to wrap it up in the next 24 posts.

I remember an interview with Prince that Chris Rock did years ago talking about how sometimes the limits bring out the better in the artist (I'm paraphrasing) because you have to find the work around.

So next up more Low Road.

Low Road

Day 74

As she wiped the ashes away from her face. Her frail frame revealed a gifted agent.

A sultry vixen who had been transformed into a protector, an educator, and a mother to a young girl.

All she wanted was a family of her own.

But she would never have that.

So the next best thing was to reunite the only family that she had ever known.

"Roger." she spoke.

"It's your daughter."

"She's missing."

Low Road

Day 73

The men from the train were dead.

The police would report.

A young woman. A dancer would be made out to be the savior of the situation.

She would be profiled on the television and the world would know her name.

Her parents would be interviewed.

Attention would be drawn.

A new life would be made.
