Low Road

Day 100

The sun shone through the window.

A young girl was sitting on a chair listening to her ipod.

It was once her mothers.

Her father had saved her life. That's what she was told.

She had slept through it all.

"Do you want bacon with your eggs dear?" the voice came from the kitchen

It was a familiar voice to her.

She sat at the table applying her black lipstick and black mascara.

"Sure," she said.

The man walked out from the kitchen with the eggs and the bacon. He put the plate at her place.
He then sat down and joined her for breakfast.

There was so much optimism in his eyes.

He handed the girl a package wrapped with a bow.

She unwrapped it.

It was a suitcase.

"Well open it up," her grandfather said.

It was filled with pictures of people. Some were famous actors with names of other members of her families written on them. Some were of her parents.

"Thanks." she said.

"Happy Birthday. Oh I almost forgot this is a little something extra from me." he said.

He then handed her a folder.

She couldn't help notice the coincidence.

"Well that's strange." she said.

"What's strange dear?" he said.

She responded," The cover matches the time exactly."

As she glanced at the clock

The digital light shown through the darkness

It was the day for her to begin to know her purpose

After all

It was

0880.

Low Road

Day 99

She had known that look. She started to back away.

He could not control the rage.

"I loved you." he said.

"Why?" Roger said.

Rachael started to sob. The one that had controlled so many and created a reality for some was now reduced to a normal person. The person she had always wanted to be with emotions and feelings.

"I just wanted us to be a family." she said.

"The Organization wanted out daughter. Not us. It was always about her. I couldn't let them take her from me so I became the Organization. It was the only way." said Rachael.

"It was not the only way. It was the only way for you." Roger screamed.

Just then the elevator from the secret passageway had arrived.

The doors had opened and a man appeared.

"Son we must go now." the man said.

Roger picked up his daughter and walked toward the elevator.

Rachael proclaimed, "leave her or you both die."

"I don't think so Rachael. Not today. I was the one who once gave the orders from down here and I shall once again."

Rachael pulled a weapon from her boot and with tears in her eyes aimed for the man she loved. She then lowered the gun.

Rachael fell to the ground.

She had so much once but now all of that was gone.

"I'm sorry Roger." she said.

"So I am Rachael." Roger said.

Low Road

Day 98

"She's gone." Roger said. "And it's because of you and your plans!" he shouted.

"My whole life has been a lie. You killed the only thing I love!" he shouted louder.

The rage was filling him.

He was turning red.

The hate was consuming him.

His tears seemed to emit steam.

He wanted his daughter back.

He wanted his wife back.

But she had stolen all of that

From him.

Low Road

Day 97

Roger and his daughter arrived with the teacher at the underground head quarters.

Rachael was waiting there. She had her headphones in her ears and the suitcase next to her at the platform.

She wanted to be reunited.

As the door opened the other agent pushed dRoger and the child out the door. She then pushed ...

Her last

Breath

Out of her

Lungs.

She had been shot.

"That is for trying to kill my daughter at the train station." she said.

Roger was stunned. He didn't know what to say.

"I know you weren't trying to hurt me. I love you Roger I always have but I couldn't allow them to get to you. Now we are reunited. Now we are a family again. You and I and our beautiful daughter.

"I don't understand." Roger said in disbelief.

"I know but soon you will. You father knew about the plan. He went to the other base to destroy it so we could be together." She said.

"But the only way he could have known about the base was from the Director who had to have been...

You." he shouted.

"Yes Roger it is I. I have always been the one pulling the strings. But I never planned on falling in love with you. and having a family changed me. All of the years of pain. I realized that I was wrong. I want to protect us. I did this all for us. You must believe me." she said with a hint of desperation as tears were welling up in her eyes.

"Your father died today for us to be free. He loved all of us. You must know that. I want you to come away with me. We shall be together." she said.

Just then Roger felt the child's pulse.

It was gone.

Low Road

Day 96

His father reached the platform underneath the headquarters.

He reached into his jacket and pulled out a detonation device.

"This is not the end." he said. Just then there was an explosion.

Low Road

Day 95

"It pays to have friends," she said to herself.

Her husband was delivered to her underground bunker.

She was the new director.

The truth is she was always the director.

That is why they all looked like fakes year after year.

They were her decoys.

She had created the confusion

and the delusion.

But for some reason

She just couldn't let go

Of him.

Low Road

Day 94

Her nails scratched the harsh words away.

Her thoughts were clouded.

She had escaped under neath the train.

She had a secret passageway that lead to the true headquarters of the organization.

Her husband was being led there.

Unknown to him.

Her daughter was sleeping safety.

Reunited.

At last.

Low Road

Day 93

She put her headphones on.

She put her black lipstick on.

She put her gun on.

She put it all into it.

She wanted them all to pay.

She wanted her child back.

She wanted them all to see.

This was the end

of everything that they made her

To be.

Low Road

Day 92

When a dead woman reemerges no one sees it coming.

There was no funeral.

There was only pain.

She did this all for them.

She destroyed it all for them.

She gave up her life for them.

She had taken it as far as she could.

She wanted out.

She wanted it all

To come out.

Once and for all.

Low Road

Day 91

He felt furious at himself.

So few could turn back the clock.

He walked into a secure area.

The secret room.

He pushed the elevator button.

He was leaving.

He may never see his son again

Alive.

But at least he would die with his

Self respect.

Tuesday, October 02, 2012

Low Road

Day 90

He had given up on trying to make sense of it.

It was all still unclear.

None of the connections lined up.

Nothing made sense.

and that was the point.

That was how the Organization worked.

His wife would be the new director.

He had made it happen.

He had been double crossed.

They all had.

There was nothing left to lose.

and now one father

had one cohice left.

A fight for to the end...

He was going to bring it.

He came to his senses...

But was it too late.

Low Road

Day 89

Internal Memo :

The number was blurred out.

The plans were revealed.

His son needed to know the truth.

The whole thing was staged.

His wife was not dead.

He was double crossed.

and now he was the one that was in danger.

He had led his boy here.

To his own death.

His own demise.

He was trying to hold it together.

The emotions.

The years.

and the tears.

This was the last lie.

and he was to deliver his own boy.

To the organization.

The twist.

The turn.

The ever burn.

Low Road

Day 88

Headquarters.

They were almost there.

"There had been a siege. There is no word on your father." the doppelganger said.

"That doesn't mean anything," Roger said out loud but inside he was worried about his father.

His daughter slept next to him through the entire ride.

As they approached the first barricade they were reunited with resistance fighters. Old friend from the war of long ago. Some had even served with his father."

"It is so good to see you Roger," one of the men dressed in fatigues said.

"Is he...o.k.? Roger asked reluctantly. He was afraid of what the answer might be. He had lost enough he did not want another loss this day.

"He is alive and well. He will be here shortly."

Low Road

Day 87

As the car sped away the glow in the rear view showed what looked like an apocalypse.

"They could be trailing us." he said.

"Nope. I rigged the place. As soon as they enter the station there will be an exp...

The sound of an explosion could be heard through the forest.

They made their way onto the freeway and into the night they drove.

Their destination.

The Organization.

Low Road

Day 86

"We need to get out of here."

Just then the girl was injected with something to make her sleep.

This was all too much for her to take.

A flood of emotions.

Washed over the pain.

Of years of regret.

He was reunited with the other agent who had taken his daughter to safety.

and the one who had taught and protected her.

The three of them were together.

and his daughter.

"I have a car waiting. This is my doppelganger. We must leave now." she said.

"We need to contact my father! " he said.

"He might already be dead." she said.

"I doubt that."
Just then the lights went out.

"I have a car waiting on the other side of the tracks but we must move now." she said.

The three of them ran as the remianing members of the organization closed in and over took the train and the trainstation.

As they cleared the tracks through the bushes nightfall protected them from being seen.

The leaves were wet and their footsteps were silenced by the sound of ...

The Organization,

Low Road

Day 85

"Christopher."

He hadn't seen him since the war. He was thought to have been killed by the Organization, but the pictures brought him to a point of ...

Hope.

It was all he had left.

They had shared a lot of good times as well as a lot of battles.

They had almost reconnected ...

Once.

When Rachael went missing. He had someone on the inside looking out for her.

He had heard that there was an attack at the office.

He had heard that he had been killed.

He had heard that he was in fact Rachael's

Father.

That's why they were married.

To protect the innocent.

To keep the revolution going.

To give his son the hope that he never had.

The hope of love.

Low Road

Day 85

As they busted through the door to the office. The director was already dead.

On his desk were a collection of pictures. They were pictures cut out of celebrities who looked like the people in the organization. These pictures were attached to the desk with magnets.

He was confused for a minute and then realized what it all meant.

There were only two people he knew who did this sort of thing.

His son was one of them and ...

Low Road

Day 84

"I just want it over!!!!!" he commanded.

It needed to end.

"Sir. It's your son. He is in position. The threat is growing on the ground. We must move now." the soldier reported.

"Proceed." he said.

His body was frail from the years. He looked strong on the outside but he was barely surviving. The only thing that kept him pushing himself forward was love.

His wife had suffered the same fate as Rachael. The organization had brought generations of his family to their knees and now it was soon to be over.

As the soldiers entered the main lobby leading to the directors office it was only a matter of time before it would end.

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Low Road

Day 83

As she lay there he plead with her with his daughter crying by his side.

He told her that he loved her and the reasons he did what he did.

He told her the plan. What was going to happen. How it was all going to end. How she was going to be the new Director. That was his gift to her. People needed to believe that they were dead. Even though they found out that they were alive since they were separated the Organization would leave him alone. Their daughter would be safe. and they would never see it coming.

Just like this attack. His wife was dead.

Before the end he told her about his father. His story. How he became the man he was. How he had looked out for both of them from afar.

and then he told her about the relation to him and the one he called his Sister.

She was his sister.

In the Revolution.

Low Road

Day 82

Her frame had remained the same. She was his daughters teacher. She was his...

Sister.

"I'm so glad to see you. We need to get her."

"She will be o.k. The Commander sent back up." "We need to get out of here before more agents arrive. We are on our own until we get to headquarters." she said.

Rachael looked stunned.

"Rachael I always knew you worked for the agency. I just needed to know that I could trust you and now I know. I needed you to lead us to the Director." Roger said.

"So you used me." Rachael was crying with rage.

"No more than you used me," Roger retorted.

"This is nice and all but we need to get to your daughter and then we need to get out of here. There aren't that many of us. The other revolutionaries are at headquarters ready to siege. The Director will be taken hostage and the new Director will take his place. We must act quick. We must get out of here now!" she grabbed Roger by the arm.

Just then the train door opened and the child ran into her fathers arms.

"Daddy." she said. He hugged her crying.

"Mommy," she said running to her mother.

She held her in her arms and wouldn't let go.

As she fell to the ground it slowly occurred to Roger that his wife had been shot.

The child fell out of her mothers arms and Roger ran to her aide.

The other agent attacked with a vengeance. She chased down the assailant. Through the train doors and over the cries of a husband and his daughter was the sound of a man pleading for his life and then...

Silence.

Low Road

Day 81

As the plane crossed through the clouds a haze could be seen on each side.

The destination was nearing. He began to have second thoughts but he knew what he had to do.

"The attack has begun." the soldier next to him reported.

"Excellent." he said.

As the headquarters of the Organization were over taken by rebel soldiers he was about to land. His job was easy. He was the commander. He was their leader and he took his job seriously.

"My son?" he asked.

"Yes Commander. He is alive. As well as his wife and child."

"One of our agents has them."

"As you were."

He acted as if it were all procedural but his heart was racing. and his health was not what it had once been.

"Strike and don't look back. I want the Director taken hostage. We are not murderers we are revolutionaries!!!!!!"

Low Road

Day 80

The voice spoke only for a moment. One word.

"Now."

The man picked up his coat from the chair and walked to a door.

As he exited he was flanked by solidiers at each side.

He placed a beret on his head and the patch over his eye spoke to the tragedy that he had endured when he was his own sons age.

"Sir." The lituenant said.

"This is it. We will be at the destination in 0200 hours."

"Good." he said.

"I have waited my whole life for this moment. My family will be reunited."

As he boarded the awaiting plane he looked out at the tarmac and with a woeful glace remembered that he would see his homeland no more. For his sacrifice would change the course of history.

and her story would be written for generations to come.

Low Road

Day 79

In an office half way around the world a man sat waiting for a call. A call from his son. Someone he had cared for all his life.

His son had at one time been a solider. Then he had gone home from the war. He met a girl, they got married, they had a daughter. But now the times were darker. The night was pitch black. The sighs for air coming from his lungs were shallower by the day.

All he ever wanted was to take down the agency. The Organization as they called themselves.

Some organization they were.

As luck would have it they met. He and her. Roger his son. The woman Rachael who would give birth to a daughter.

The floodgates were open.

The future was unsure.

But if he were to ever to gain control again.

He would take them down.

He would take them all down.

The phone rang.

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Low Road

Day 78

As the girl was running she passed bodies of agents. Somehow this one person had destroyed those who were trying to hurt her. People would tell her one day that he was an evil man. Or that he was crazy. But she knew in her heart that he was the one who knew all along where the path lie.

That he alone.

Was the one.

Who would help to lead her home.

As she passed through the doors of the train station a woman in a coat approached her. "I am so glad to see you."

"Where is my mother and father?"

"They are nearby. We must go now before more agents arrive."

The girl knew she had to trust her. The man led her to this place. The phone call. The years. It was all coming true. She was finally going to be.

Reunited.

Low Road

Day 77

"You can't trust anyone little one. Remember that. People will turn on you. I hate to be the one to tell you."

"I wasn't aiming for you. I was aiming for them." the mysterious figured said.

Just then a group of agents surround the outskirts of the train station. They were armed and they were outnumbered.

The little girl knew that she would be reunited with her parents one way or another and no one was going to get in the way of that.

The stranger spoke, "So I see you have us outnumbered. That's too bad because what if you could never have that of which you want."

The stranger grabbed the girl and took her hostage. "If she's dead who are you going to use? Who will do your bidding in the future. This has to stop. This has to end. The world will collapse without us. I doubt that. I doubt that. I even doubt myself. Sometimes." Under his breath he told her, "I will keep you safe little one. I am losing my mind. But even then my soul tells me to keep you safe. Don't be scared. When I start firing run to the station you will find your father and mother there."

The girl nodded. He seemed like someone she once knew but how could this be.

He raised his arms to reveal an artillery laden jacket. He was a madman to some but he was her way to safety.

"RUN!!!!!!" he yelled.

She ran.

He fired a barrage that seemed to never end.

The other agents fired back.

In the end he was dead and she was free.

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Low Road

Day 76

The girl was frozen in her own confusion.

She wanted to find her parents. She wanted to find her protector.

The train station was just out of reach. She could see the fire and the smoke in the distance.

She could see the end coming near.

She could see over the horizon.

The problem was that there was none.

She was the horizon.

She was the sunshine.

She was the one.

The only one that mattered anymore.

Her senses were heightened.

She could hear the bullet in the chamber.

"How was this possible?" she thought to herself.

She was confused but she knew what to do.

Just like before.

"Stop right there!!!!!" the voice said.

She stood frozen. Was this it? Was this the end. Would she ever see her parents again?

Day 75

Day 75

So here we are at the 75th day of 100 days of summer.

The story is 3/4 of the way through.

The weird thing is that I will miss it.

The other strange thing is that I have to wrap it up in the next 24 posts.

I remember an interview with Prince that Chris Rock did years ago talking about how sometimes the limits bring out the better in the artist (I'm paraphrasing) because you have to find the work around.

So next up more Low Road.

Thursday, September 13, 2012

Low Road

Day 74

As she wiped the ashes away from her face. Her frail frame revealed a gifted agent.

A sultry vixen who had been transformed into a protector, an educator, and a mother to a young girl.

All she wanted was a family of her own.

But she would never have that.

So the next best thing was to reunite the only family that she had ever known.

"Roger." she spoke.

"It's your daughter."

"She's missing."

Low Road

Day 73

The men from the train were dead.

The police would report.

A young woman. A dancer would be made out to be the savior of the situation.

She would be profiled on the television and the world would know her name.

Her parents would be interviewed.

Attention would be drawn.

A new life would be made.

Low Road

Day 72

Just then the train pulled into the station.

"There are others out there waiting for us." he said as he motioned to the two men. "Go secure the perimeter. Cuff her and give her to me. I will deliver her to the new director." he said.

"The new director?" she asked.

"You need to go along with this and no harm will come to you." Roger stated.

"Roger! Why? What has become of you and I? she asked.

"Just a few minuted ago you wanted to tell me you didn't love me anymore and now you do. Regardless I love you and this is the only way that I can show you that." Roger replied.

The sound of a torrent of bullets came from outside. Each round  sounded as if it was getting closer to the train.

Just then a long black cloak approached them.

"Do not be alarmed."the voice spoke.

A voice that only a child would know.

Low Road

Day 71

Just then a figure reached their arm around Rachael's neck.

He was left untouched.

"I am so sorry this had to happen this way. I loved you Rachael I really did." he said.

"Did? What do you mean did?" she asked.

"I had to make a choice." he said.

"What choice?" Rachael could not for the life of her put it together.

"I had to choose our daughters life and freedom over that of the organization. Soon you will be wanted for the death of the director. The cameras at the train station will capture a woman who is seen fleeing the scene of the assignation of an agent." he stated.

"They are relentless. They will kill you." he said.

"Why would you do this to me? she asked.

"Because there are some things greater than us? he said.

"Like who?" Rachel still didn't understand.

"Like Family." he said.

Low Road

Day 70

They argued like an old married couple because that is what they are. The train was not as close to the station as they had hoped.

"What if our daughter is already dead?" he asked.

"Then I will take care of it." she said.

"You aren't the only one with a secret." he said.

"What?" she asked.

"I haven't been totally honest with ...

Just then the train doors opened and two men walked in.

The lights in the train shut off and the train started to accelerate.

"I think we better save this argument for later." she said.

"Rachel I love you." he said to her honestly.

"Duck." she said.

Monday, September 10, 2012

Low Road

Day 69

As she looked around she saw no one.

She started to run towards the train station.

She had received a call from a stranger.

He had told her that her parents were alive.

He said that he would send someone to the train station for her.

He knew she was going to be there.

He must have sent this woman.

But someone was still out there waiting, watching.

She slowly put it together.

"Run!"

Low Road

Day 68

A child stood there motionless.

In front of her was a woman. A beautiful woman who resembled someone. She couldn't quite place it. She was far too young to remember. But emotionally she felt connected to her.

Shock took over and she just stood there looking at her lifeless body.

Knowing.

The bullet was meant for her.

This stranger had saved her life.

She knelt down and the woman said nothing.

Yet somehow the child knew.

Low Road

Day 67

As she got to the train station it dawned on her. This was the end. At least it seemed like it to her.

They were going to be reunited one last time.

She spent her life on the sidelines for him.

She dialed down her career. She felt like it was neccessary. The woman who approached her all those years ago told her how good they were together. She was his wife.

Stephanie just wanted to be like anyone else. She thought to herself.

"Wow I must be losing it. My boyfriend is on the run. He is married so he isn't even my boyfriend anymore." "It's like he never was."

But still she thought.

To herself.

"I love him."

Just then a gun shot rang out.

Her head slouched.

and a pool of blood began to form beneath her crown.

She was gone.

Would he ever know how much she loved him?

No one knows.

Except.

Low Road

Day 66

"I must find her." She thought to herself. She removed the mirror from the bathroom to reveal a hiding place full of money and weapons. It was her secret vault. It led to a crawl space that led to a room. The Vault. No one knew but her. Of course she did think someone would be on to her. I mean how many school teachers do you know that buy weapons and stockpile them. She told them they were gifts for her boyfriend. He was a solider.

and in a sense she was right.

For the love of her life was the Agency and now the cracks were showing.

She gave everything of herself to the Agency.

She used to have leeway but now they were controlling all of the shots and this latest escapade was getting out of control

She would never let anything happen to that child even if it meant death. Even if it meant the death of The Agency it self.

Low Road

Day 65

The voice on the other end of the line was agitated to say the least.

"What happened? We are relying on you. This is the only way we can control them." the Director said.

"Control them?" She sounded puzzled.

"What our plans are are no concern to you." The director said.

"They are to me when I and a child are involved." she said sternly.

"What do you intend to do?" she asked.

"Kill them all." said the director.

"Who"? What?" She was confused. She was the girls protector and teacher. She was her mother in a sense and now she was to be her killer there was no way she was going to let that happen.

She knew not to let on or else the girl would be in even more danger.

"I will take care of it." she said.

Good Sabrina for without you this mission would fail and you wouldn't want to let down your family now would you." the Director said.

"No I wouldn't." she said.

Low Road

Day 64

The words from the young girl hurt her worse than anything else ever had.

She was no one's mother. She was never given that privilege.

Not that she didn't want it.

The life as an agent was painful enough.

She could not imagine bringing into it another life.

One that would need her more than anyone else.

She longed for it.

The phone rang.

As she went to answer it she noticed the girl...

Was gone.

Low Road

Day 63

As they exited the club to his car he held the door open for her.

"Strange," she thought to herself. She liked this one. He was so much different.

That evening they spent the whole night on the roof of his loft.

Talking about their lives.

If the agency ever found out about this she could be reprimanded.

Some agents went missing forever.

But for some reason that didn't matter to her.
He was hers and she was his.

He asked her for her name.

She told him the truth.

Rachael.
Day 62

As she lost her mark a man approached her.

"Hi. I'm ..."

She just looked at him.

"You're kinda... are you allright?" he asked.

She looked dazed. Who was this man? To walk up to her. He wasn't pushy. He was different.

She looked into his eyes and could read him and then not at all.

He clearly wasn't a danger to him.

"I want someone to spend some time with." she said.

"I do too. I mean I'm hope I'm not too forward but. Can we get out of here?" he asked.

"Sure," she said.

This was the first man in a long time who didn't seem afraid of her.

Low Road

Day 61

The club was crowded. People were dancing. The music was loud.

The couples were talking over the sound of the beat and each others attempts at love.

The rhythm was all she craved.

Men advanced and she retracted.

She wasn't interested in love.

She was interested in answers.

As she made her way through the crowd she saw her mark.

He was a handsome man.

As she went to pursue him she lost him in the crowd.

and this was the first time this had ever happened to her.

She wasn't interested in firsts.

Especially when it came to her and her career.

Low Road

Day 60

The train station was just out of reach in the distance.

The man with the gloved hand said to her," Look if we don't make it out of this one give this to him."
He then reached into his jacked and handed her a flash drive.

"What is this?" she asked.

"This is what's going to save your lives." he said.

Just then she could make out the shadows of two cloaked figured and a road block which had led to the halt.

"I'll take care of these clowns." he said.

" I never got your name." she said.

"Agent 0880." he replied.

She was confused and at the same time for some reason knew exactly what he meant.

Low Road

Day 59

" I don't mean to startle you but I was sent here at first to kill you." the man with the gloved hand said.

"But I've changed my mind." he said and then smiled.

"You aren't going to hurt me?" She asked.

"No." he said.

"Why not?" she asked.

"Because you have looked after my boy." said the man with the gloved hand.

"Your boy?" she asked. "Is he your son?"
"Something like that." he replied.

"Look out." she said as the car came to a sudden halt.

Low Road

Day 58

The man with the gloved hand took her through a series of allies and back roads on foot. He then opened a car door for her.

"After you." he said.

She got in. Not knowing this stranger but having seen the news reports she knew that in fact she was in danger.

Her life as a dancer was exciting in her eyes but not as exciting as this.

As the car spun out of the alley it became clear to her that her boyfriend was reaching out to her. He had to have been the one to send this man to protect her.

At least she had hoped.

Low Road

Day 57

"How do I express in words that which I cannot say?" she thought to herself.

The girl was still confused looking at her.

"I am not your mommy." she said with tears in her eyes.

"I know" the girl said.

Shocked an relieved she asked,  "How did you know?"

"Please don't be mad at me. I found a file in your drawer when I was looking for my magnets and then I saw the pictures of the two people and I looked at the mirror and back at the pictures. Then back at the mirror and then back at the picture and that's when I knew. That I wasn't a reflection of you."

"I'm not mad darling but those people are dangerous you must never speak to them. Understand?"

"No!" She proclaimed. "They are my parents and I am their daughter!!!!"

"You are not my mommy!!!!!" she screamed.

Low Road

Day 56

It was a rainny day. The raindrops matched her tears and confusion.

How do you explain to such a young girl that you are the one keeping her safe yet her secret can now no longer be safetly kept?

It was dangerous world and she wanted to keep her away from it.

It was painful.

It was dangerous.

It was her life.

But now it had become hers as well.

Low Road

Day 55

" I don't even know where to begin." she said with tears in her eyes.

She continued, "there are things that you don't know about me."

"What are you saying mommy?" the girl asked.

"I need you to be strong for me o.k.?" she trailed.

"O.K." The girl said in a state of confusion.

This was the "talk." The one which she never wanted to have.

She had raised her as her own but she was not her own.

She was just part of the plan.

The organization wasn't interested in protecting either of them.

Just itself.

Day 54

"I know that you love me. I know that you still care about me. Even though you don't say it." he said.

Rachel. Her name was still swirling in her head. She was that person once a long time ago.

She had ambition.

She had dreams.

But they beat it out of her.

and so she gave her only daughter to a woman who resembled her.

Who she knew would protect her.

Who had the fire in her eyes.

The same as her.

A model, a dancer, a woman.

an agent.

But free.

Unlike her.

Low Road

Day 53

"I picked her out myself," she said.

"What? What are you talking about?" he said in a confused rather than angry voice.

"She is a good woman and I knew that if anything happened to me that you would need someone to look after you. That and I knew that she resembled our daughter enough that people would believe you were the couple who conceived her," she said this very matter of fact.

"We shared so many years together..." he trailed off in disbelief.

"I know and they were good ones but now they are gone and so is everything but our memories." she tried to reassure him.

"Look I love you. I can't undo that. I don't understand your life. I never will but that doesn't change things." he said. She was surprised that he didn't reject her. For she knew that was the reaction the organization was looking for.
"Our relationship is too complicated to survive." she said.

"I don't believe that Rachel."

It was the first time she heard her name used, her real name used in such a long time.

But how could he possibly know the truth?

Low Road

Day 52

They were on a train. Reunited just like all of those years ago. The emotions were far too strong.

"'They made me go away. I had to go. For your safety. They would have killed you. I did it all for you... and her."

"You faked your own death and the kidnapping of our daughter for me?" he said.

"I did." she whispered.

"Look I don't expect you to understand. These things are complex." she then realized how what she had said had sounded.

"Am I not smart enough to understand?" he shouted.

"Besides I've found somebody else." he stated.

"I know." she said.

Low Road

Day 51

"What do you want?" she said calmly.

The man said, " you."

"Excuse me?" she said.

"To come with me." he said.

"Are you going to kill me?" she could barely get the words out.

"No. I am not the enemy but I need you to come with me. Once they figure out who you are you will be dead." the man with the gloved hand said.

"Why should I trust you." she said.

"Because it looks like you have no choice."

As they turned a group of men appeared.

One of them the leader spoke.

"You are under arrest for the kidnapping of..."

Just then the man with the gloved man pulled an explosive device from his coat. Smoke filled the backstage area of the catwalk. He then handed her a mask, "put this on."

They ran down a flight of stairs to the exit. They cleared it. As they pushed the door to the alley open the street was covered with police. A voice through a megaphone spoke " we have you surrounded."

The man with the gloved hand said, "No you have nothing."

Just then a flash of blinding light illuminated the alley and he and her were gone.

A Reflection

Day 50

A reflection on the first 50 days of 100 Days of Summer.

My favorite entry was the first one because it was the first time I released any "new" music in over 3 years.

My original concept was to create 10 new songs and give them away as an instrumental album. My computer started to act up on the third day and I still haven't resolved how to fix it. Due to that my process has changed because after two days of music I switched to writing a story. Something that I was not planning on doing.

I am enjoying it. Now that I am back to work there a few days where I don't post anything because I want to make sure that I give it my best. I am excited about where the story goes. Even though I wrote an ending that doesn't mean that it is going to be the one that will be used.

The best part of this project is that we will all see together where this story goes and what it leads to. and hoepfully there will still be some more music.

Low Road

Day 49

They had met outside of a cafe. He was purusing the newstand and she was purchasing a magazine with her image on it.

He happened to glance over at her and then at the magazine in her hand.

"That's you" he said.

"Surprised?" she responded.

"No. You look good. I mean I hope I'm not being to forward." "You look good sounds a little you know." he said.

"Scetchy?" she finished.

He laughed and she smiled.

She knew who he was. It had dawned on her. He had seen the news reports of a man who came home one day to find his wife and daughter abducted. The government had later released a report that they were presumed dead and that he was not a suspect.

"My name is ...." she trailed off.

"Peter. My name is Peter." His name might have been Peter. She couldn't remember. They might have mentioned it on the news it had been such a long time ago.

As the lights in the dressing room started to fade she gathered her things and began to walk towards the exit.

When she put her hand on the door a gloved hand reached for hers.

She was startled.

She was not an agent.

Low Road

Day 48

The sound of crowd had dispersed. She was sitting in her chair staring at her made up face in the mirror. Would he still love her once he found her again? She always believed that his wife and daughter were still alive. She just had a feeling.

They had been away from each other for a few days when she had heard the news.

There was an alleged member of a state intelligence agency who was being pursued for the kidnapping of the daughter of a school teacher.

She slowly started to remove her make up.

Girlfriend? He barely could touch her? He felt too much guilt.

She told him that it was alright.

More proof that she was alive possibly.

Day 47

The sound of a cello filled the house. The music was similar to that of her mothers. She felt the vibrations of the sound and escaped to a place she could be free.

Her mother did the same so many times by putting the ibuds in her ears. Just like she did the first time in a long time she had seen her father face to face in the train station.

The protector of the girl was looking out the window and pulling the window shut.

A chorus of angels surrounded her imagination.

Face to face they woke up.

Reunited her parents they were.

Together and apart the shall be again.

Until their family is reunited.

She felt this way every time she played.

The years had passed but her love for them grew.

She didn't understand why but she just didn't feel a part.

Of the one.

They told her was.

Her mother.

The strangers in the pictures she kept.

They looked.

Familiar.

Day 46

She was sitting at a typewriter. Pounding the keys. Responding to correspondence.

The little girl was sitting by the window playing with her crayons and paper.

The teacher had started working at the school a few years ago. She had told them that she was her child. When she found the girl abandoned she knew she had to raise her as her own.

She and her husband had wanted a child but he was a solider and was killed a long time ago in a country that many have forgotten the name of. Boundaries are redrawn and old enemies are renamed.

She called the girl her grandmothers name. She felt it was fitting. They were inseparable.

She had joined the agency shortly after the death of her husband. He was a good man who wanted to change the world. She wasn't so sure if it could be changed. She had grown calloused. She wanted to find another way. A way to let it out. A way to mask the pain by feeling it again. She wanted to be emotional.

But it was just no use.

"Mommy," the girl said.

The words were still foreign to her.

Day 45

The school yard was empty that day. The sound of children running up and down the halls was still present. There was a flag in the distance.

The sound of the children laughing was quickly silenced. A female voice started to address them over a loud speaker. Inside the classroom the students were dressed in identical uniforms.

She was sitting there quietly in her desk like the rest of them. Feeling abandoned. Isolated and alone. Wondering where her parents were as one by one the other students were picked up from the school house.

The teacher walked over to her. "It's going to be o.k." she said. The teacher was instructed to treat her like all the others but to also keep an eye on her. She was told that her parents were murdered. She was also instructed to protect the child from anyone who was not authorized to take her to and from the campus.

As the teacher walked back to her desk she leaned over to pick up her belongings the outline of a firearm was briefly revealed where her blouse and her skirt met.

She was a kind woman but there was a fire in her eyes. When she was a young girl her parents were murdered in front of her so she knew the isolation and rage.

She shared in the moment and then let it go.

As she went to grab her belongings she opened up her folder to reveal pictures.

It was the photograph of a couple.

The couple who were not allowed near the child.

and she was the girls protector.

Day 44

The director sat a across the room supported by a lone chair.

He was speaking to her but she was unable to focus.

Her stomach was starting to feel pain.

She was beginning to put the pieces together.

She had to remain calm.

"Smile and nod," she told herself.

"Take the envelope when he hands it to you," she thought again.

Just then the lights failed.

The power went out and smoke filled the room.

The director disappeared in the haze.

She was sitting alone. She reached for her gun.

It wasn't there.

Instead there was a hand and a voice that said, "C'mon we don't have much time."

She recognized it immediately.

"She's alive," she said.

"I know." he responded.

The sound of fireworks surrounded them.

The sound of freedom

Low Road

Day 43

She held on to their relationship as long as she could.

The director had convinced her that it would be best to protect the one she loved if she faked her own death. Her own kidnapping. and that her daughter would be left unharmed.

The plan was for him to come home and find signs of a struggle and their daughter asleep in her room.

When he came home he found a sign of a struggle and an empty house.

and that is when he began collecting clues.

Clues that would lead them both to a train station.

A suitcase.

and the hope of a future together together.

Beyond the agency.

But first they had to find each other

again.

Day 42

She sat there stunned. She was exhausted. She felt used. The organization was making her crazy.

The orbit of her universe was falling.

The music that she once had time to love had been silenced.

His voice, his breath, his kiss.

Their daughter.

He thought that she was dead.

That both of them were dead.

Now he knew the truth.

The whole story.

She had to find them.

Was this new director telling her the truth.

She didn't know.

She had to...

Know.

Day 41

The child they never mentioned again. It was just too painful.

The day she went missing. The day mother and child went missing.

He was the only one left at the house.

Alone.

His whole life searching for them.

Believeing that she was dead.

A fathers love for his child.

His only loves in life.

Taken from him at such a young age.

Until he found a clue.

She was the clue.

Day 40

Could this new director be an impostor? she thought to herself. Did the agency really think that she would not notice? She was trained by them to detect the frauds.

and then he began to speak.

"I can tell by your expression that you are confused. I am not the director you are used to meeting. There is not just one director. In order for our organization to survive we had to multiply. If one of us should meet our downfall the organization would still survive. Do you understand?" he asked.

"Yes," she replied.

He then reached in his pocket and removed a small package. He approached her, " I believe this is yours."

She reached for the package and removed it from his hand. As she opened it she realized what it was. "How could this be?" she asked.

"Your daughter," he replied. "She would want this, no?

"Yes she would," she said.

"She is alive." He said.

"How?"

He had tried to get her off of his mind.

She was a phantom of his imagination at this point.

It was a summer day. There was no one in the house but him.

He sat on the floor.

Staring.

At the photographs.

The phone rang.

A tear fell in heaven.

He believed that she was dead and their daughter as well.

and then he found the suitcase.

She left inside of it a clue.

Day 36

"0880" was the number on the file. She knew this meant. The end of everything. They wanted her to "elimate him."

Their love was a lie.

She had to convince him of this to force him away. She didn't know how but she just had to find one.

Day 35

They were married. He and her. Forever happily after.

But that day never came.

She was the one who walked away.

She died and he never knew the truth.

He searched for years.

Carrying around her suitcase from location to location.

Looking for her.

Just one more time.

To hold her.

To kiss her.

To touch her.

To love her.

He wanted to feel alive.

One last time.

Before she ...

Died.

Day 34

She sat alone. Like so many times before. The heat of his embrace scared her. Yet she was drawn to him. She couldn't pull away. Until of course the one night when she did.

She remembers the songs that they used to listen to. He was always too nervous to draw close. Constantly chattering when she was around. and then it stopped. They seemed right together.

She was always an agent. He just didn't know. He must have suspected. He never talked about it. He loved her too much. She was very careful to protect their identity.

They would have stayed together. But after the loss that they suffered.

Together.

They pulled apart.

Day 33

She thought back to their first meeting. An encounter that started off a chain of events.

She was a young girl. They went to the same school. He was a few months younger than her. He was so much more self-assured than her.

He took his time with her. Allowed her her flaws. But then she became something else through time.

She knew he would always love her.

Even if he didn't admit it.

Even if they never saw each other again.

Day 32

They had a shared history. One that was monumental.

They went on so many assignments together when they were younger. They fell in love. But then she began to change.

She told him that she wanted to be with him. He resisted. She told him she would do what she needed to to survive.

He was left stunned. Shocked. Tormented by his emotions. Who had she become. They were once so close.

That was the last time they talked. That was the last time they were in a room together.

Day 32

He had only wanted to live just a little while longer. He wanted to see her through. She was faithful to him and he to her. She knew that there was a sadness in his heart that was beyond her repair.

He would weep for his youth from beyond the door that was closed to her. A heart that cared but for whom.

He wanted to make his move. His return. But the one he was with now was close to him and he to her and it would not be right.

If they were to reunite it would be on his terms. He knew that he would need to stop living in the past.

Day 31

"Agent it is good to finally meet you. I have heard so many great things about you. It is unfortunate that this latest series of events has transpired," he said.

Something seemed off. He wasn't nervous. His voice was steady. He seemed sincere.

and then it dawned on her. This was not the director. This was someone they had sent in his place.

Day 30

She found herself sitting in the lobby of the directors office. He would have questions. The organization had taken care of the details. They had been attacked but why? Were they behind it.

Descending down a staircase was a man dressed in business attire. The director. They had never met face to face. This was a difficult descent. An operative had been lost. He needed to account the cost.

It was a tense moment. The two were to meet for the first time. The conversation was about to begin. A conversation that would change the course of their lives forever.

Day 29

She reached into her pocket and pulled out her music player. All she could think about was staying focused. She quickly looked for a song. It wasn’t there instead she found a message. It was titled the same as the song but instead there was no music just his voice.

She wondered how he had gotten ahold of her player without her knowing it. Of course they were all clandestine agents. Their work was unknown to most, expecially to them.

She listened closely, the voice began to speak.

Day 27

She had dirt in her tears as her mascara run. The river of a thick mud of darkness permeated the sidewalk on where she stood for the moment.

She wanted to go back but there was nothing left to look for. It was clear to her that she would never know for sure who he was. She thought maybe she could confirm her feelings someday. Maybe.

She missed her old way of life. The tall man knew this and maybe that is way he gave everything for her freedom.

She loved him for this. Whether or not he turned out to be her father.

Monday, July 30, 2012

Low Road

Day 26

He must have been her father. That is all she could think. Why else would he have stayed so close to her? Why else would he protect her the way that he did?

When she entered the office the other man was already dead. Who isn’t to say that he was waiting there to kill her and that the tall man killed him to save her life.

He was old enough to be her father. The age difference was enough.

Low Road

Day 25

"Move. Now. C'mon. You don't have time, he shouted through the confusion. "You need to run, Go now. Don't look back," he said.

She turned and ran as fast as she could. She didn't look back. She heard the explosion. It was only in those final moments that it finally dawned on her who the Tall Man really was. But why had he kept his identity secret for so long.

She wondered as tears filled her eyes.

Low Road

Day 24

She didn't want to leave.

Him. Another.

Man that

She loved.

Reality was setting in. Was this an attack. Of course it was she thought to her self. Why were they targeting her and who was it exactly.

Sure there was always the possibility that they were after the Tall Man. But why would they focus on him?

It must be her.

Low Road

Day 23

The glass from the car window shattered. The sound of gas was filling the car. Smoke was everywhere. The car swerved and hit the wall and flipped. The way the light shown through the smoke was surreal. She wondered to herself if this was it.

The tall man was coughing. He said loudly, "get out of here." I've got this covered. He reached into his coat and revealed a pair of glasses and a small mask. He put the mask over her and put the glasses on himself.

"I'll be able to cover you from here. Go! Now."

Day 21

He grew tired of the staring at the pictures. The people with faces that were familiar were no substitution.

He wanted to be close to her again. He sensed that something was wrong. He knew that there were events transpiring.

There was a knock at his door. "How could this be? No one knows where I am," he thought to himself. Then as he reached for his gun a sealed manila envelope slid across the floor.

As he made his way to the door he looked out through the peephole. The irony struck him as he remembered its name. He was in isolation.

He wanted to be with her.

At the grave yard.

But he had escaped death.

So many times.

Before...

Day 20

"We need to leave now," the tall man said. She stood up and followed him to the parking lot. At that moment she was reminded of a song. The song she loved the most. It took her back to a better time.

She had lost that in her life.

"We have to meet someone tonight. I will go with you. I can't stay in the car this time. It's not safe and there is too much at stake." She thought to herself. She couldn't remember her own thoughts. Her nerves were starting to get to her.

"I know you two were close. As close as you could be, " spoke the tall man.
He did not want to look like he was having a meaningful conversation. His every move was always being watched. He was given a second chance. There would not be another one. He was assigned as her new protector.

Not very long ago. and now this.

A murder unsolved. and a new case emerges. Would they let her solve the crime. Did they already know who did it? Or were they behind it?

Day 17

She wished she had known his name. If he had a family. A wife. Children. They weren't allowed to know these things about each other. and they were monitored 24/7 just in case.

She remembered when she was just starting out on assignment. He had come with her. He had protected her. She thought this agent was indestructible. But now that was just not the case.

Her fingernails were staring at her. She could glance what she felt was her reflection in her nails. She glanced back and saw the tall man once again ready to give her her next assignment.

Day 16

The cars passed by the window. He could hear the sound of people talking. He looked across the room at the refrigerator. On it was a series of magnets that were holding pictures. Nothing too personal. He would never want his loved ones to become targets themselves.

In order to prevent this he would in his mind cast different celebrities as his closest loved ones. The actors and other public figures who seemed the most like the ones in his life he loved the most.

He then would pass the time cutting out their pictures and posting them on the refrigerator with the magnets. He still had the real pictures. He had taken the remaining ones of her and placed them in a suitcase.

Day 15

Her heart raced. The tall man appeared from behind the door. "Christopher is dead!" "What?" she heard herself say out loud. They had just seen each other the night before.

The tall man walked toward her with something in his hand. "I found this, look familiar?" He didn't need to ask. She knew that he knew who artifact belonged to. It was his. "How could this be she asked herself." She ran towards the door. The tall man blocked her before she entered.

"You don't want to go in there," he said. "But I must know for sure. I need to be certain, she said.

The tall man just held her and stared into her eyes. "He's gone," he said.

Low Road

Day 14

14 minutes early. She looked at her watch. She would have to wait. As she pushed in her code at the elevator she kept thinking. "I need to be more focused?" "I need to get home to let Tiger out." "He's been cooped up all day." "If only he were still in my life I could just call him and he could do it for me."

The elevator stopped and jarred her back to her reality. A reality that very few had ever known. "How did someone like me get to this place," she thought to herself.

As she stepped off the elevator she could see what appeared to be a trail of violence leading to the office she was supposed to be in. The tall man got out of the elevator and hurried toward the door whispering something in to his watch, or so it seemed. She knew her cover had been blown. Who could have done this? The only one who knew who she was, who she really was was him.

Low Road

Day 13

The suitcase. It seemed like the one thing between the life she used to live and the one she had now. Yet somehow these two worlds were merging. How did she not see this coming?

There was a time she remembered when she was engaged. When she was young and very much in love. But something happened to that dream. It was almost a reality. It was worse to be so close and never have, than to have lost it, forever.

She collected her thoughts, closed up the suitcase, and prepared to get out of the car. As the car came to a stop she nodded to the tall man who proceeded to open the door for her. She stepped out of the car and into the sunlight. Just as her foot touched the ground a dark cloud appeared and the sound of thunder began. "Just my luck," she thought to herself. She quickly went up the steps and swiped her key to allow entry into the lobby. This was her domain. This was her life now. and nothing was going to change that. and definitely not a little bit of rain.

Low Road

Day 12
He was sitting at the small makeshift table in his small apartment staring out the window. The window was just a small corner of a much bigger window for fear that someone would see him. Many had speculated if he had survived or not. The war had done a lot to him. It had made him tougher, stronger, more resourceful. It had also made him forget. and when he could not forget he would try to find a way to forget.

Some people never survive their past. The most traumatic parts of their lives are gone and over forever but the aftermath lingers on. He sat there with a blank expression as the sweat poured out. He had just returned not very long ago and his body had not had a chance to acclimate. He wanted to go outside again. He wanted to live. But it was only if it was necessary. and at this point in time of his life it was not absolutely necessary. Yet.

Comic-Con 2012

Day 7

Comic-Con 2012

So today was the day to pick up badges for Comic-Con. Since this is a crazy time I figured it was best to post a picture a day and a reflection from Comic-Con. This is the inside of the hotel where the pick--up was. Kinda calm compared to years past. The pictures the next couple of days should be more exciting. Basically you print out a bar code then wait in a line to have someone scan it and give you your pass. Then they give you a huge bag and a few guides to the show and a Dexter thing for your badge.

Day 6

Low Road

The ride from the train station made her tired. It always did. She had never gotten used to it in all of the years of her being in this line of work. She saw herself as a necessary evil. A hero in a sense. But just in a sense. In a different context she could be seen as the one who was there to keep things safe for the future. For future generations. Without her they would in fact not exist. She has convinced herself of this years ago.

Her amber lipstick that was framed in a slight shade of darkness resembled smouldering charcoal. She always wanted to make an impression. To give them the image that they desired. She however was no image. She was a real person. With hopes and dreams like anybody else. She simply saw the world in two camps. Good and evil. and she had the unique distinction of being in the third camp "grey."

As she lifted the suitcase onto her lap it became clear that she needed to do this alone. Sure she took orders but she was also allowed to give them and this was an opportunity that would never come again. If he were still out there, if he actually existed, she would find him. She didn't want anyone to get in her way. She would do anything to stop that from happening.

Day 5

Low Road

She thought back to a happier time in her life. When he and her were inseparable. But now they were never together, always apart. Forever.

Nothing is permanent in life. Everything is in change. She quickly grabbed the suitcase and walked briskly through the crowd of travellers. She hadn't even noticed them before. The music kept her in a constant state of isolation. Closed off from the world. So safe and secure. Not remembering where she was or what she was there to do.

"Stay on task," she quietly spoke to herself. She pulled the ibuds out with one hand and made her way through the exit doors. Quickly darting to her ride that was awaiting. A tall man nodded to her and got in the car. The driver sped away. She sat alone for a few seconds grasping her breath and catching her thoughts. The tide was turning. Would she have to be alone much longer? Would all the answers that she was awaiting be found within the suitcase? There were only a few people in the world who knew the contents. and she was about to become on of them.

Day 4

Low Road

She travelled for hours waiting to find him. She had only read about him in books. Did he exist? Was he a figment of her imagination?

She slowly pulled out her ipod from her back pocket, carefully unwrapped the headphones, put the ibuds in her ears, and turned the music on. After fidgeting with the device she settled on a selection. A musical selection that would transport her to another moment in time.

Would he be different than the other ones. One would hope. But for all her desperation she was also optimistic. She wanted a man who wouldn't lie to her. Not this time. What was in the suitcase that was just was placed next to her left leg. She turned to look and saw the back of a man exiting the train station. She couldn't make him out from the crowd. Was he the one?
