Low Road

Day 27

She had dirt in her tears as her mascara run. The river of a thick mud of darkness permeated the sidewalk on where she stood for the moment.

She wanted to go back but there was nothing left to look for. It was clear to her that she would never know for sure who he was. She thought maybe she could confirm her feelings someday. Maybe.

She missed her old way of life. The tall man knew this and maybe that is way he gave everything for her freedom.

She loved him for this. Whether or not he turned out to be her father.

Low Road

Day 26

He must have been her father. That is all she could think. Why else would he have stayed so close to her? Why else would he protect her the way that he did?

When she entered the office the other man was already dead. Who isn’t to say that he was waiting there to kill her and that the tall man killed him to save her life.

He was old enough to be her father. The age difference was enough.

Low Road

Day 25

"Move. Now. C'mon. You don't have time, he shouted through the confusion. "You need to run, Go now. Don't look back," he said.

She turned and ran as fast as she could. She didn't look back. She heard the explosion. It was only in those final moments that it finally dawned on her who the Tall Man really was. But why had he kept his identity secret for so long.

She wondered as tears filled her eyes.

Low Road

Day 24

She didn't want to leave.

Him. Another.

Man that

She loved.

Reality was setting in. Was this an attack. Of course it was she thought to her self. Why were they targeting her and who was it exactly.

Sure there was always the possibility that they were after the Tall Man. But why would they focus on him?

It must be her.

Low Road

Day 23

The glass from the car window shattered. The sound of gas was filling the car. Smoke was everywhere. The car swerved and hit the wall and flipped. The way the light shown through the smoke was surreal. She wondered to herself if this was it.

The tall man was coughing. He said loudly, "get out of here." I've got this covered. He reached into his coat and revealed a pair of glasses and a small mask. He put the mask over her and put the glasses on himself.

"I'll be able to cover you from here. Go! Now."

Low Road

Day 21

He grew tired of the staring at the pictures. The people with faces that were familiar were no substitution.

He wanted to be close to her again. He sensed that something was wrong. He knew that there were events transpiring.

There was a knock at his door. "How could this be? No one knows where I am," he thought to himself. Then as he reached for his gun a sealed manila envelope slid across the floor.

As he made his way to the door he looked out through the peephole. The irony struck him as he remembered its name. He was in isolation.

He wanted to be with her.

At the grave yard.

But he had escaped death.

So many times.

Before...

Low Road

Day 20

"We need to leave now," the tall man said. She stood up and followed him to the parking lot. At that moment she was reminded of a song. The song she loved the most. It took her back to a better time.

She had lost that in her life.

"We have to meet someone tonight. I will go with you. I can't stay in the car this time. It's not safe and there is too much at stake." She thought to herself. She couldn't remember her own thoughts. Her nerves were starting to get to her.

Day 19

A Shift

Across the graveyard he walked every day.

Dragging that shovel to the ground.

The sound of the rocks under his feet.

Low Road

Day 18

"I know you two were close. As close as you could be, " spoke the tall man.
He did not want to look like he was having a meaningful conversation. His every move was always being watched. He was given a second chance. There would not be another one. He was assigned as her new protector.

Not very long ago. and now this.

A murder unsolved. and a new case emerges. Would they let her solve the crime. Did they already know who did it? Or were they behind it?

Low Road

Day 17

She wished she had known his name. If he had a family. A wife. Children. They weren't allowed to know these things about each other. and they were monitored 24/7 just in case.

She remembered when she was just starting out on assignment. He had come with her. He had protected her. She thought this agent was indestructible. But now that was just not the case.

Her fingernails were staring at her. She could glance what she felt was her reflection in her nails. She glanced back and saw the tall man once again ready to give her her next assignment.

Low Road

Day 16

The cars passed by the window. He could hear the sound of people talking. He looked across the room at the refrigerator. On it was a series of magnets that were holding pictures. Nothing too personal. He would never want his loved ones to become targets themselves.

In order to prevent this he would in his mind cast different celebrities as his closest loved ones. The actors and other public figures who seemed the most like the ones in his life he loved the most.

He then would pass the time cutting out their pictures and posting them on the refrigerator with the magnets. He still had the real pictures. He had taken the remaining ones of her and placed them in a suitcase.

Low Road

Day 15

Her heart raced. The tall man appeared from behind the door. "Christopher is dead!" "What?" she heard herself say out loud. They had just seen each other the night before.

The tall man walked toward her with something in his hand. "I found this, look familiar?" He didn't need to ask. She knew that he knew who artifact belonged to. It was his. "How could this be she asked herself." She ran towards the door. The tall man blocked her before she entered.

"You don't want to go in there," he said. "But I must know for sure. I need to be certain, she said.

The tall man just held her and stared into her eyes. "He's gone," he said.

Low Road

Day 14

14 minutes early. She looked at her watch. She would have to wait. As she pushed in her code at the elevator she kept thinking. "I need to be more focused?" "I need to get home to let Tiger out." "He's been cooped up all day." "If only he were still in my life I could just call him and he could do it for me."

The elevator stopped and jarred her back to her reality. A reality that very few had ever known. "How did someone like me get to this place," she thought to herself.

As she stepped off the elevator she could see what appeared to be a trail of violence leading to the office she was supposed to be in. The tall man got out of the elevator and hurried toward the door whispering something in to his watch, or so it seemed. She knew her cover had been blown. Who could have done this? The only one who knew who she was, who she really was was him.

Low Road

Day 13

The suitcase. It seemed like the one thing between the life she used to live and the one she had now. Yet somehow these two worlds were merging. How did she not see this coming?

There was a time she remembered when she was engaged. When she was young and very much in love. But something happened to that dream. It was almost a reality. It was worse to be so close and never have, than to have lost it, forever.

She collected her thoughts, closed up the suitcase, and prepared to get out of the car. As the car came to a stop she nodded to the tall man who proceeded to open the door for her. She stepped out of the car and into the sunlight. Just as her foot touched the ground a dark cloud appeared and the sound of thunder began. "Just my luck," she thought to herself. She quickly went up the steps and swiped her key to allow entry into the lobby. This was her domain. This was her life now. and nothing was going to change that. and definitely not a little bit of rain.

Low Road

Day 12
He was sitting at the small makeshift table in his small apartment staring out the window. The window was just a small corner of a much bigger window for fear that someone would see him. Many had speculated if he had survived or not. The war had done a lot to him. It had made him tougher, stronger, more resourceful. It had also made him forget. and when he could not forget he would try to find a way to forget.

Some people never survive their past. The most traumatic parts of their lives are gone and over forever but the aftermath lingers on. He sat there with a blank expression as the sweat poured out. He had just returned not very long ago and his body had not had a chance to acclimate. He wanted to go outside again. He wanted to live. But it was only if it was necessary. and at this point in time of his life it was not absolutely necessary. Yet.

Comic-Con 2012

Day 7

Comic-Con 2012

So today was the day to pick up badges for Comic-Con. Since this is a crazy time I figured it was best to post a picture a day and a reflection from Comic-Con. This is the inside of the hotel where the pick--up was. Kinda calm compared to years past. The pictures the next couple of days should be more exciting. Basically you print out a bar code then wait in a line to have someone scan it and give you your pass. Then they give you a huge bag and a few guides to the show and a Dexter thing for your badge.

Day 6

Low Road

The ride from the train station made her tired. It always did. She had never gotten used to it in all of the years of her being in this line of work. She saw herself as a necessary evil. A hero in a sense. But just in a sense. In a different context she could be seen as the one who was there to keep things safe for the future. For future generations. Without her they would in fact not exist. She has convinced herself of this years ago.

Her amber lipstick that was framed in a slight shade of darkness resembled smouldering charcoal. She always wanted to make an impression. To give them the image that they desired. She however was no image. She was a real person. With hopes and dreams like anybody else. She simply saw the world in two camps. Good and evil. and she had the unique distinction of being in the third camp "grey."

As she lifted the suitcase onto her lap it became clear that she needed to do this alone. Sure she took orders but she was also allowed to give them and this was an opportunity that would never come again. If he were still out there, if he actually existed, she would find him. She didn't want anyone to get in her way. She would do anything to stop that from happening.

Day 5

Low Road

She thought back to a happier time in her life. When he and her were inseparable. But now they were never together, always apart. Forever.

Nothing is permanent in life. Everything is in change. She quickly grabbed the suitcase and walked briskly through the crowd of travellers. She hadn't even noticed them before. The music kept her in a constant state of isolation. Closed off from the world. So safe and secure. Not remembering where she was or what she was there to do.

"Stay on task," she quietly spoke to herself. She pulled the ibuds out with one hand and made her way through the exit doors. Quickly darting to her ride that was awaiting. A tall man nodded to her and got in the car. The driver sped away. She sat alone for a few seconds grasping her breath and catching her thoughts. The tide was turning. Would she have to be alone much longer? Would all the answers that she was awaiting be found within the suitcase? There were only a few people in the world who knew the contents. and she was about to become on of them.

Day 4

Low Road

She travelled for hours waiting to find him. She had only read about him in books. Did he exist? Was he a figment of her imagination?

She slowly pulled out her ipod from her back pocket, carefully unwrapped the headphones, put the ibuds in her ears, and turned the music on. After fidgeting with the device she settled on a selection. A musical selection that would transport her to another moment in time.

Would he be different than the other ones. One would hope. But for all her desperation she was also optimistic. She wanted a man who wouldn't lie to her. Not this time. What was in the suitcase that was just was placed next to her left leg. She turned to look and saw the back of a man exiting the train station. She couldn't make him out from the crowd. Was he the one?
